Work through your blog and fill in the marking tracker in the front of your exercise book.

RESEARCH AND PLANNING TASK 1 – ON BLOG PLEASE

Choose a TV commercial and answer the following questions/complete the tasks:

1.       What is the product and who are the company selling it? The product is a takeaway app and the company is Just Eat.

2.       What are their brand values? You can order any takeaway quick and easy.

3.       Pick out 1 of each of the following. Describe it and explain its effect:

(i)                  Camera shot type- The shot types used are full shot (when the couple are sitting on the sofa deciding what to have), mid shot(when he rips off his clothes into the superhero costume), close up( onto the phone showing what the app is and looks like), establishing shot(of the stage showing where the man is performing)

(ii)                Camera angle- the angles used worm’s eye(when the man jumps onto the table) high angle(when he is getting taken up by the wires)

(iii)               Camera movement- main camera movement is panning (when he is singing on the stage)

(iv)              Transition/edit- the only one really used are cut(used throughout the whole of the advert)

4.       Describe the use of diegetic / non-diegetic sound – how does it help persuade audiences to spend their money on this product?  The diegetic sound used is the actors speaking, the crumbling of the house when is falls apart and the bang of the fireworks when on stage. The non-diegetic sound is the music in the background, of the song ‘I need a hero’.

5.       Mise-en-scene – pick out aspects of setting, lighting, costume, acting, props & dialogue – describe them and explain their effectiveness. The setting starts off at the lounge of a house then when he starts singing it then goes to a stage. The costumes are simple at the beginning as the couple are just in casual clothes then when he starts singing he goes into some tight superhero costumes. The main props used are a phone to show a way to order the takeaway, a big balti cooking to show what he ordered(it also represents the burning house in the original song) and he wears a wig to make him look like Bonnie Tyler.

6.       Consider the logos and the screen graphics – describe them and explain their effectiveness. The logo is shown when the woman asks the man if he wants a takeaway. It is ‘Just Eat’ in white bold colour and a red background making it clear to the audience what it is. There is also a cursor representing the gap on the ‘a’ which indicates it is a web app and can be ordered quickly.
